Product Information Management (PIM) Software Options 2027

Every product you sell carries a trail of data: specifications, images, translations, compliance documents and the attributes each marketplace insists on. When that data lives in spreadsheets, ERP fields and shared drives, the cost shows up as slow launches, returns caused by wrong descriptions, and teams re-keying the same details for every channel. Product Information Management (PIM) software exists to fix that.

This guide covers eleven PIM platforms for 2027, split into enterprise and mid-market tiers, for manufacturers, retailers, distributors and direct-to-consumer brands. AI-assisted enrichment, composable architecture and a run of acquisitions have all reshaped the market since our last edition. Viewpoint Analysis is an independent Technology Matchmaker, helping businesses find and select the right technology fast. We aim to be the first place buyers go to find new enterprise software and services.

What is Product Information Management Software?

Product Information Management (PIM) software is a central system for collecting, managing, enriching and distributing product data to every channel that needs it. A PIM acts as the single source of truth for product content, including technical specifications, descriptions, images, pricing rules, compliance documents and localised variants, so the right data reaches the right place in the right format. That might be an e-commerce storefront, a print catalogue, a retail partner feed, a marketplace such as Amazon or a direct sales system. Without a PIM, product data tends to sit in spreadsheets, ERP systems and shared drives, which creates duplication, version conflicts and manual effort that slows launches and erodes data quality. For businesses managing thousands of SKUs across several channels, a PIM is a foundation rather than an optional extra.

ℹ️ For a broader view of the data management category and how PIM fits alongside MDM, data integration, and data quality tools, see our Data Technology Guide. The page also contains lots of information relating to how to buy data tech.

Data Technology

PIM, MDM or DAM?

These categories overlap and are easy to confuse. PIM manages and enriches the product content that customers and channels see. Master data management governs core records such as product, customer and supplier data across the enterprise, with more emphasis on data quality and stewardship than on channel publishing. Digital asset management stores and controls images, video and other rich media. Several vendors in this guide, including Stibo Systems, Informatica, SAP and Contentserv, span more than one of these, so decide which problem comes first before you shortlist.

How to Find PIM Software

The PIM market runs from composable enterprise platforms to affordable tools built for e-commerce or manufacturing businesses. A clear view of your catalogue complexity, channel mix and integration requirements will narrow the field considerably. If PIM is part of a wider systems change, our Retail Software Options, ERP for Manufacturing and Product Lifecycle Management Software Options reports cover the neighbouring categories.

Enterprise PIM Software Options 2027

Akeneo was founded in France, is now headquartered in Boston and has a large global customer base. It sells its software as the Akeneo Product Cloud, which brings PIM together with supplier data onboarding, channel activation, product experience insights and AI-driven enrichment. It handles complex catalogue structures and multi-language, multi-locale data, and connects to a large ecosystem of e-commerce platforms, ERPs and marketplaces. In June 2026 Akeneo acquired PricingHUB, a pricing management platform, so pricing and product data can be managed in one decision layer, building on its earlier purchase of AI specialist Unifai. Akeneo suits retail, manufacturing and distribution businesses that need an open platform able to keep governance and enrichment quality high as catalogues grow.

Our Viewpoint: Akeneo gives growing and enterprise brands an open, well-connected product data foundation that now reaches into pricing too.

Salsify describes itself as a Product Experience Management (PXM) platform and has a strong following among consumer goods brands and retailers that manage and syndicate content across many retail partners and digital channels. Syndication is the core of its appeal: Salsify maintains a large library of retailer content requirements, so product data can be formatted and delivered in the exact structure each trading partner expects. Workflow and collaboration tools support cross-functional enrichment teams. In July 2026 private equity firm Cinven agreed to acquire Salsify; at the time of writing the deal was still subject to regulatory approval.

Our Viewpoint: Salsify is built for brands whose growth depends on getting product content right across many retail partners at once.

Stibo Systems is a long-established Danish master data management and PIM vendor with deep roots in manufacturing, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and other industries where data accuracy and compliance are essential. Its STEP platform supports complex data models with hierarchies, relationships and classifications, which makes it a natural fit where product data meets regulatory content, safety data sheets or supply chain provenance. It also manages customer, supplier and location data, so product information can sit inside a wider multi-domain MDM programme. Stibo is typically selected by large enterprises with demanding governance needs, and its implementation partner network is well developed for complex deployments.

Our Viewpoint: Stibo Systems brings governance depth and multi-domain reach to enterprises where product data has to be right first time.

Informatica MDM approaches product data from a master data governance perspective, which suits large enterprises where product information sits alongside customer, supplier and location data in a single MDM programme. It provides enterprise-grade data quality, stewardship workflows and lineage tracking, and works well where PIM is one part of a wider data strategy. Salesforce completed its acquisition of Informatica in November 2025 and plans a single data pipeline with Informatica MDM on its Data 360 platform, to give Agentforce trusted data to work from. Informatica continues to integrate with SAP and other enterprise platforms already present in large organisations.

Our Viewpoint: Informatica suits large organisations that want product data governed to the same standard as the rest of their enterprise data.

SAP Master Data Governance is the natural option for large enterprises already invested in SAP. Rather than working as a standalone PIM, SAP MDG provides centralised governance and consolidation of master data, including product data, across SAP landscapes. For businesses running SAP S/4HANA or SAP ECC, it keeps product records created in SAP consistent, deduplicated and approved before they flow downstream. SAP also completed its acquisition of MDM vendor Reltio in 2026 and is building Reltio into SAP Business Data Cloud, so SAP customers now have two master data routes to consider. MDG is best assessed as part of a wider SAP data strategy, often alongside a channel-focused PIM for digital publishing.

Our Viewpoint: SAP MDG gives SAP-centred enterprises a governed, trusted source of product master data inside the SAP estate they already run.

Contentserv combines PIM with digital asset management in what it calls its AI-powered Product Experience Cloud, which makes it a strong candidate where rich media matters as much as structured product data. It is popular in fashion, lifestyle, luxury and consumer goods, where visual content and localised storytelling sit at the heart of the product experience. Its workflow tools and AI-powered translation and enrichment suit businesses launching frequently across many markets. Contentserv is now part of Centric Software, owned by Dassault Systèmes, following an acquisition announced in February 2025, which places it alongside Centric's product lifecycle and retail planning tools.

Our Viewpoint: Contentserv suits brands that want product data and rich media managed together, with a clear path into Centric's product development tools.

Syndigo built its position through content syndication and digital shelf analytics, and is a strong choice for consumer goods and food and beverage brands that distribute product content to large networks of retail and foodservice partners. Combining PIM, syndication and shelf performance data in one platform helps businesses connect what is on the product page to what is actually selling. Syndigo acquired 1WorldSync in 2025, creating a combined business that reaches more than 3,500 retailers and over 18,000 customers in 60 countries, and it is positioning itself around AI-first product experience management.

Our Viewpoint: Syndigo gives consumer brands unusual reach into retail and foodservice channels, with the shelf data to see what is working.

Mid-Market PIM Software Options 2027

Inriver is a Swedish-founded, cloud-native PIM platform with a strong following among manufacturing, industrial and retail businesses in the Nordics and wider Europe, and a growing presence in North America. Its data model is built around product relationships and hierarchies, which suits businesses with complex product families, variants and technical attributes. Channel publishing is a strength, and its integration framework connects to major e-commerce platforms, DAM systems and ERPs. It is a good fit for businesses that have outgrown spreadsheet-based product data but do not need the scale of the largest enterprise platforms.

Our Viewpoint: Inriver is a well-structured choice for manufacturers and distributors with complex product families to publish.

Plytix is a Málaga-based PIM built for small and mid-sized businesses that want core PIM capability without enterprise cost or complexity. It has a clean interface, strong spreadsheet import tools and a product analytics layer that shows which attributes drive engagement, along with channel feeds for marketplaces and e-commerce platforms. It suits e-commerce, direct-to-consumer and wholesale businesses that want to get product data under control quickly without a long implementation, and its published, tiered pricing makes budgeting straightforward.

Our Viewpoint: Plytix makes PIM accessible for smaller brands that want results in weeks rather than months.

Bluestone PIM is a cloud-native, API-first PIM platform built on composable principles, which makes it a natural fit for businesses adopting headless commerce or building flexible multi-channel experiences. Developed in Norway and growing internationally, it is designed to be quick to deploy and to fit modern digital ecosystems without imposing a rigid data model, and it has added AI features to help enrich product data. It suits businesses that want PIM capability without the overhead of a traditional enterprise implementation, and development teams that value API access and composability.

Our Viewpoint: Bluestone PIM gives API-led commerce teams a flexible product data hub that slots into the stack they choose.

Perfion is a PIM platform owned by Boyum IT since 2023, with standard integrations for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and SAP Business One. It is a practical choice for mid-market manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors that want to extend their existing ERP investment rather than add a loosely connected SaaS tool. Product managers get structured PIM capability, including attribute management, channel publishing and automated datasheet and catalogue generation, and SAP Business One users can see real-time prices and inventory inside Perfion.

Our Viewpoint: Perfion is a sensible fit for mid-market firms on Business Central or SAP Business One that want product data managed close to their ERP.

Who Owns Whom? PIM Market Changes Since Our Last Update

Several vendors in this guide have changed hands or joined larger groups. Salesforce completed its purchase of Informatica in November 2025, and SAP completed its acquisition of Reltio in 2026. Contentserv is now part of Centric Software within Dassault Systèmes, Syndigo combined with 1WorldSync in 2025, and in July 2026 Cinven agreed to acquire Salsify.

Others are buying to widen what they offer. Akeneo added pricing management through PricingHUB in June 2026, and Perfion has kept building ERP connections under Boyum IT.

None of this is a reason to rule a vendor in or out, but it should shape your questions. Ask each vendor how new ownership affects the product roadmap, pricing and support for your ERP and commerce platforms, and look for contract terms that protect you if the product direction changes.

How to Select PIM Software

Selecting a PIM platform requires more clarity about your own environment than most buyers start with. The vendors in this guide serve meaningfully different use cases, and choosing the wrong platform - typically by optimising for brand name rather than fit - creates expensive rework further down the line. The most important evaluation dimensions for PIM are: catalogue volume and complexity (number of SKUs, attribute depth, product relationships and variants), channel mix and syndication requirements (how many channels, marketplaces, and trading partners need to receive product data, and in what formats), integration dependencies (ERP, DAM, e-commerce platform, translation management), data governance requirements (workflow, approval processes, stewardship), and the technical capacity of the team that will own and operate the platform.

For organisations moving from spreadsheets to structured PIM for the first time, it is worth considering a phased approach: validate your data model and integration requirements before committing to a full platform selection. For businesses replacing an existing PIM, a structured RFI process will quickly reveal the gaps the current platform has created and test whether candidates genuinely address them.

To move through vendor assessment efficiently, the Rapid RFI provides a structured longlisting approach, the Rapid RFP supports shortlisting and final selection, and the 30-Day Technology Selection compresses the full process into under a month for teams under time pressure. For a comprehensive reference on running a rigorous software selection process, the Enterprise Software Selection Playbook 2026 covers methodology, RFI design, vendor scoring, and contract negotiation in full.

Summary

The PIM market heading into 2027 offers a broad set of options, from composable API-first platforms and deep enterprise systems for regulated industries to affordable tools for growing e-commerce businesses and specialist syndication platforms for retail channel networks. The right choice depends on your catalogue complexity, channel mix, integration environment and the skills of the team that will run the platform.

Three points for buyers making a PIM decision this year. First, do not confuse market share with fit: the best-known platforms serve different primary use cases, and the most familiar name may not suit your business. Second, treat syndication as a first-order requirement if you sell through retail partners, marketplaces or distributors, and test how each platform handles last-mile formatting and delivery before shortlisting. Third, integration depth matters as much as PIM functionality, because a platform that connects cleanly to your ERP, DAM and e-commerce stack will deliver value faster than a richer system that needs heavy custom integration.
