Who Are GBTEC?

GBTEC was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Bochum, Germany. The company is led by founder and CEO Gregor Greinke, who chairs the management board and remains closely involved in product direction. Today, GBTEC employs several hundred people across locations in the DACH region, Spain, the UK, the USA, and Australia, and serves more than 1,200 customers worldwide, ranging from mid-sized organisations through to Fortune 500 enterprises and public sector institutions.

The business took a significant step in late 2023 when The Carlyle Group, the US private equity firm, acquired a majority stake. That investment is funding an international expansion push, with new offices opened in the UK and the USA, and an ambition to establish GBTEC as a global leader in intelligent process automation, AI-driven process management, and GRC. For buyers, the practical takeaway is that this is a well-funded, growing vendor with a clear product roadmap, rather than a niche regional player.

What Does GBTEC Do?

GBTEC develops BIC Platform, a cloud-based software suite for what the company calls business transformation. In plain English, it helps organisations document how work actually gets done, improve and standardise those processes, automate them where it makes sense, and keep them compliant with the regulations and risks that apply to the business. Rather than buying one tool for process modelling, another for workflow automation, and a third for risk and compliance, BIC Platform brings these disciplines together in one integrated product.

The starting point for most customers is process design. Teams model their business processes in a central repository, publish them to a portal that everyone in the organisation can access, and manage changes through governed release and approval workflows. From there, customers can extend into process execution, turning documented processes into automated digital workflows using no-code and low-code tooling, and into process mining, which uses real system data to show how processes actually behave in practice and where the bottlenecks sit.

Two further capabilities round out the platform. BIC GRC covers governance, risk and compliance, including enterprise risk management, internal controls, information security, business continuity, and ESG. BIC EAM, launched in 2025, adds enterprise architecture management, letting organisations map their IT landscape alongside their processes and plan IT transformation from the same platform. Across the whole suite, GBTEC has embedded an AI assistant called Arty, which helps users map processes, summarise data, and identify optimisation opportunities.

The process management and transformation market is busy, with strong competition from both large enterprise software vendors and dedicated specialists. •      SAP Signavio. SAP's process transformation suite is arguably GBTEC's most visible rival, particularly in organisations running SAP landscapes. It is strong on process intelligence and tightly integrated with SAP's wider portfolio, though buyers outside the SAP ecosystem may find GBTEC's independence and pricing more attractive.

•      Software AG ARIS. ARIS is one of the longest-established names in process management, with deep modelling capabilities and a strong presence in large, regulated enterprises. It is a heavyweight option, and some buyers find GBTEC's more modern user experience easier to roll out to a broad employee base.

•      Celonis. Celonis leads the process mining category and has expanded into process orchestration and automation. It is data-led rather than model-led, so it suits organisations that want to start from evidence of how processes behave, whereas GBTEC begins from process design and extends into mining.

•      Bizagi. Bizagi combines process modelling with a low-code automation platform and has a strong following among organisations focused on digitising workflows quickly. It is more automation-centric, while GBTEC offers a broader spread across GRC and enterprise architecture.

•      iGrafx. iGrafx offers a process intelligence platform covering design, mining, and risk, and competes directly with GBTEC in process-centric transformation programmes. The two are often compared where process governance and compliance are key requirements.

GBTEC Customer Examples

GBTEC publishes a healthy library of customer success stories on its website, with a noticeable concentration in manufacturing, industrial, and regulated financial services businesses. The four examples below are all drawn from the vendor's own published case studies and give a sense of the breadth of use cases the platform supports.

CEMEX. The global building materials group uses BIC Process Design to run a worldwide process excellence programme, moving from fragmented, inconsistent process mapping to managing processes on a global scale, with reported benefits in cost reduction and customer experience.

LEONI. The German automotive supplier is using BIC Platform to build a completely new business process model for its Wiring Systems Division, standardising process documentation for thousands of users in a single portal as part of a major transformation programme.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems. The engine and propulsion specialist uses BIC Platform to optimise the control of its global corporate processes and to ensure compliance security across the organisation.

MSIG Insurance Europe. The industrial insurer, part of the MS&AD Group, has built an audit-proof process management system with BIC Platform, combining a process map of over 500 models with integrated GRC workflows to meet BaFin and other regulatory requirements.
