Nexthink is widely regarded as the pure-play leader in Digital Employee Experience (DEX) software, and for large enterprises with complex, distributed device estates, it remains one of the most capable platforms on the market. But it is not the right fit for every organisation. Whether the concern is licensing cost, the weight of the platform relative to the estate it is managing, or a broader IT operations consolidation strategy, the decision to explore alternatives is more common than many IT and digital workplace leaders expect. Indeed, sometimes it's just a case that the team have decided that they want a change from Nexthink and need to find an alternative option.
Viewpoint Analysis is a Technology Matchmaker. We help businesses to find and select new enterprise software, and, if possible, we help them fix issues with incumbent partners. This report looks at the Nexthink alternative - vendors who we believe are credible options to consider.
The Reasons Businesses Switch from Nexthink
Nexthink is a capable platform, and for many large global enterprises it delivers genuine value. However, a number of factors may be causing the frustration. For Nexthink specifically, these can include the following:
Cost is the most frequently cited factor. Nexthink is priced at the premium end of the DEX market, and organisations that adopted it during a period of rapid device estate growth sometimes find the renewal cost difficult to justify once that growth has slowed.
Implementation and configuration overhead follows closely. Getting full value from Nexthink's telemetry and automated remediation capability typically requires sustained investment in building and maintaining workflows, and some organisations find they need ongoing specialist resource to keep the platform delivering beyond its out-of-the-box reporting.
Platform consolidation is a growing driver. Organisations already running a unified endpoint management or ITSM platform with built-in DEX capability - Ivanti Neurons, VMware Workspace ONE, or ServiceNow, for example - increasingly question whether a dedicated best-of-breed DEX tool is still justified once "good enough" experience monitoring is available inside a platform they are already paying for.
Estate fit also plays a role. Nexthink is built for large, complex, physical-endpoint-heavy environments. Organisations with a significant VDI footprint, or with a smaller and simpler estate than they had when Nexthink was first selected, sometimes find the platform carries more depth and overhead than their current needs justify.
Finally, strategic change can drive the review. A merger, acquisition, device estate refresh, or a shift in the broader IT operations or security tooling strategy can all prompt a reassessment of the DEX platform and whether it remains the right foundation going forward.
Should You Switch from Nexthink?
Replacing a DEX platform is a significant undertaking, particularly once telemetry, dashboards, and remediation workflows are embedded into day-to-day IT operations. The decision deserves more rigour than a list of frustrations or a persuasive vendor demonstration. In most cases, trying to solve the issues with the current solution is cheaper, easier, and more productive than replacing it.
There are situations where staying with Nexthink and investing in better configuration, adoption, or automation build-out is the more sensible path. There are also situations where the platform is genuinely disproportionate to current needs and a replacement programme is the right call. The questions worth answering before committing to a switch include the following:
Are the problems you are experiencing genuine platform limitations, or gaps in configuration and automation build-out that could be addressed?
Is there broad agreement amongst the team that you need to change, or are you listening to the loudest voices?
What would a migration programme realistically cost in time, money, and disruption to IT operations reporting continuity?
Is your dissatisfaction with Nexthink itself, or with how it has been configured and supported since go-live?
Would consolidating DEX capability into your existing UEM or ITSM platform address the gap more efficiently than a like-for-like DEX replacement?
And finally, if you presented your issues to Nexthink or their partner, would they make an effort to keep you?
These questions are not designed to talk you out of switching. They are questions that will make your eventual decision better evidenced and more defensible to stakeholders.
Our Stick or Switch application assessment service provides an independent assessment to help you and your team decide whether to stick with your existing solution (in this case Nexthink) or move to consider an alternative. It sees the Viewpoint Analysis team provide two parallel streams of activity:
We look at the current Nexthink situation and the options to improve it. We'll interview your team, collate the feedback, and then approach the Nexthink team to ask for help. It's a great opportunity to quickly focus on the problems and have both the internal team and the vendor sit at the table to figure things out.
Whilst we look at the current situation, we'll also run a beauty parade of the alternative options, bringing the leading vendors in to present how they would handle your specific estate and requirements. We'll quickly find out if the grass is really greener on the other side of the fence.
Once both exercises are complete, we'll have the team score and decide on their preferred approach, then write up our findings so it's all packaged up.

The Best Nexthink Alternatives in 2026
The following platforms represent the most credible alternatives to Nexthink for enterprise and mid-market organisations. This is not a ranked list. The right choice depends entirely on your estate composition, existing platform investments, and specific priorities.
Lakeside SysTrack
Lakeside is Nexthink's closest pure-play competitor, matching it on depth of endpoint telemetry and adding particular strength in virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments alongside physical endpoints. SysTrack captures an exceptionally granular level of device and application performance data, and its dashboards are widely used beyond IT operations - for real estate planning, technology refresh decisions, and IT service management improvement. For organisations that want Nexthink-level data depth with stronger VDI coverage, SysTrack is a natural first port of call.
1E
1E is a UK-headquartered DEX vendor with a strong focus on endpoint automation and remediation speed rather than dashboards alone. Its Tachyon platform can push fixes and instructions to devices at scale in seconds, which has historically differentiated it from monitoring-first competitors. 1E has more recently added experience scoring and sentiment capability to bring it closer to full DEX parity. It is well suited to organisations with large Windows estates where remediation speed, rather than the breadth of reporting, is the primary requirement.
Riverbed Alluvio (Aternity)
Riverbed's Alluvio platform, built on the former Aternity application experience product, brings a network-performance heritage to DEX that Nexthink does not natively match. It correlates endpoint experience data with network-layer telemetry, making it a strong option for organisations where VPN, SD-WAN, or branch office connectivity is a significant driver of employee experience issues, and it has particular depth in monitoring the performance of large enterprise applications such as SAP, Oracle, and Salesforce.
Tanium
Tanium is best known as a converged endpoint management and security platform, and its DEX capability runs on the same single agent used for endpoint management and vulnerability remediation. For organisations that already run Tanium for security and endpoint management, adding DEX under the same agent is a consolidation play that a standalone Nexthink deployment cannot match, removing an additional agent from the estate entirely.
Options for Organisations Consolidating Around an Existing Platform
These platforms suit organisations that have concluded a dedicated best-of-breed DEX tool is no longer justified, and that would rather extend a platform they already run.
Ivanti Neurons
Ivanti Neurons combines UEM, ITSM, security, and DEX capability - including experience scoring, automated discovery, and AI-powered remediation - into a single IT operations platform. For organisations already running Ivanti for endpoint management or service management, extending into DEX avoids the cost and integration overhead of a separate Nexthink relationship, and Ivanti has a particularly strong customer base in healthcare and public sector.
VMware Workspace ONE
Workspace ONE, now part of Broadcom, pairs unified endpoint management with a DEX module covering experience scoring, sentiment collection, and remediation. For organisations already invested in Workspace ONE for UEM, its DEX capability is a logical and lower-cost extension. It is worth noting that licensing and support terms have changed materially since the Broadcom acquisition, which is a factor worth checking carefully before committing further spend to the platform.
ServiceNow
ServiceNow's Employee Experience product area brings DEX-adjacent capability - self-service, AI virtual agents, and digital workplace tooling - into an ITSM platform many organisations already run. It is not a direct telemetry-and-remediation replacement for Nexthink, but for organisations approaching the switch from a service-led rather than a monitoring-led perspective, it can meaningfully reduce the case for a standalone DEX tool.
Lightweight and VDI-Focused Alternatives
ControlUp
ControlUp offers real-time monitoring with strong roots in virtual desktop and cloud workspace environments, and it positions itself explicitly as a faster, lighter alternative to heavier platforms like Nexthink. For organisations prioritising speed of deployment and real-time operational visibility over the breadth of Nexthink's full feature set, ControlUp is a credible and increasingly popular choice, particularly in healthcare and financial services VDI estates.
This is not an exhaustive market map - it's worth reviewing the Digital Employee Experience Software Options 2026 guide, which covers the broader DEX market in detail.

How to Evaluate Nexthink Alternatives
The quality of your evaluation process will have more impact on the outcome than which platforms you include in the shortlist. A well-run selection process protects you from making a decision based on a compelling demonstration rather than a genuine fit assessment. At Viewpoint Analysis, we have run hundreds of technology selections, and our approach is built around speed and rigour in equal measure.
Our view is that vendor selection should be fast. It is not the project: it is the mechanism to find the right technology for the project. The following is how we approach it.
Step 1: Define the Problem Statement
Before any vendor conversations, we help clients build a clear problem statement: a concise articulation of what is not working with Nexthink today, why it matters, what the consequences of inaction are, and what a successful resolution looks like. This is the most valuable document in the entire selection process and costs almost nothing to produce. It aligns your team internally and forms the foundation of your RFP.
Step 2: Run a Fast Market Assessment
The Technology Matchmaker approach is our preferred starting point for organisations that want to understand the field before committing to a formal selection. We write up your challenge in vendor-friendly language, approach the relevant DEX vendor community, and host a series of Matchmaker Presentations where vendors present their approach to your specific estate. It is a fast, low-commitment way to assess whether the alternatives genuinely offer something better than Nexthink before investing in a full procurement process.
Step 3: Shortlist Tightly
Once you have seen the field, the most important discipline is keeping the shortlist short. We recommend a maximum of four or five vendors for the formal evaluation stage. Beyond that number, the process becomes difficult to manage and vendor fatigue sets in on both sides.
Step 4: Run a Rapid RFP
Our Rapid RFP then takes that shortlist through to a preferred vendor, managing the RFP document, vendor qualification calls, Q&A, and presentations. If you know how to run an RFP already, or if you have a procurement team, get started with an RFP quickly.
Step 5: Score and Decide
The final stage is structured scoring against your agreed requirements, combining the team's qualitative assessments with documented vendor responses. We facilitate the scoring and decision session and produce a written summary of findings so the decision is documented and defensible.
ℹ️ For organisations that want to complete the full process in a single, condensed programme, our 30-Day Technology Selection combines the best of the Rapid RFI and Rapid RFP into a single month-long engagement. If you want to understand the full process of evaluating and selecting new IT operations technology, the Enterprise Software Selection Playbook 2026 is a practical starting point.
Concluding Comments
Nexthink is a leading DEX technology but it's not always right for every company, or it might just be time for a change. Software vendors win customers and they lose them, it's how their business operates each and every year. The key thing is to be sure that making a change is going to be the best decision for your department or company.
