Who Are Eightfold AI?
If you have spent any time researching AI powered recruiting or talent management platforms, the name Eightfold AI has almost certainly come up. Eightfold is one of the best known providers of what it calls a Talent Intelligence Platform, using deep learning and, more recently, agentic AI to help large employers find, hire, develop, and redeploy talent based on skills rather than job titles or resumes. It has built a strong reputation among enterprise HR and talent acquisition leaders, and its long standing partnership with SAP SuccessFactors has made it a familiar name well beyond pure recruiting circles. Viewpoint Analysis is a Technology Matchmaker, helping businesses to quickly find and select new enterprise technology. Our aim is to be the place enterprise buyers go to understand the software and technology market before speaking to vendors. Read on to learn more about Eightfold AI.
Who Are Eightfold AI?
Eightfold AI was founded in 2016 by Ashutosh Garg and Varun Kacholia, two engineers with backgrounds in search and machine learning at companies including Google, Facebook, and BloomReach. The company is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, and Garg continues to serve as CEO and Co-Founder alongside Kacholia as CTO.
Eightfold operates as a well funded, privately held enterprise software company, having raised in excess of $400 million and reaching a valuation of around $2.1 billion. Its customer base spans large, multinational employers across manufacturing, financial services, telecommunications, consumer goods, technology, and the public sector, and the platform is used in well over 100 countries and multiple languages. Eightfold is not a system of record for HR data, it is designed to sit alongside and enrich existing HR platforms such as SAP SuccessFactors and Workday with AI driven insight about skills, potential, and career pathways.
The business has grown steadily from its early focus on talent acquisition into a broader talent intelligence company, and it now positions itself around what it calls an Agentic Talent Operating System, reflecting a shift from AI that simply surfaces recommendations towards AI agents that can carry out parts of the recruiting and talent management workflow themselves. This evolution has kept Eightfold near the centre of the conversation as enterprise buyers weigh up how much of their talent process they are comfortable automating, and how much they want to keep firmly in human hands.
What Does Eightfold AI Do?
Eightfold provides a Talent Intelligence Platform that uses deep learning AI, drawing on a dataset the company describes as including well over a billion career profiles and more than a million distinct skills, to understand what a candidate or employee can do rather than simply what their CV says. Instead of matching keywords, the platform builds a skills based profile for every person in an organisation's talent network and matches that profile against open roles, projects, or career paths.
The platform is sold as a set of connected modules covering the full talent lifecycle. Talent Acquisition helps recruiters source, screen, and interview external candidates, surfacing people who may not have applied for a specific role but whose skills make them a strong fit. Talent Management focuses on existing employees, helping them see internal opportunities, understand skill gaps against roles they aspire to, and build development plans. A Workforce Exchange, sometimes referred to as Resource Management, extends this to internal mobility, gig work, and project staffing, matching people to short term assignments as well as permanent roles.
More recently Eightfold has leaned heavily into agentic AI, positioning itself as an "Agentic Talent Operating System" in which autonomous agents take on tasks such as screening, interview scheduling, and even conducting structured AI interviews, working alongside human recruiters rather than replacing the final hiring decision. This sits within the broader HR Technology market, where AI driven skills intelligence has become one of the fastest moving areas of investment for enterprise buyers. Eightfold's bias reduction features, including the ability to mask personal characteristics during screening, are also a significant part of its pitch to organisations with diversity and inclusion commitments.
A significant part of Eightfold's go to market has been built around deep integration with existing HR systems rather than replacing them outright. Its long standing, SAP endorsed partnership with SAP SuccessFactors is the clearest example, allowing joint customers to keep SuccessFactors as their core HR system of record while Eightfold supplies the intelligence layer on top. Similar integrations exist with other major HR platforms and applicant tracking systems, and Eightfold works with global systems integrators including Accenture, Deloitte, and PwC on larger enterprise rollouts. For buyers, this means Eightfold is more often evaluated as an addition to an existing HR technology stack than as a wholesale replacement for it.

Eightfold AI Alternatives
Eightfold competes in a crowded and fast evolving market for AI driven talent acquisition and talent management software. Its closest rivals tend to be other vendors that lead with AI and skills intelligence rather than traditional applicant tracking, alongside talent modules from the major HR suites.
Phenom. Phenom offers a broader talent experience platform covering candidate experience, career sites, and internal mobility, and is often shortlisted alongside Eightfold by buyers who want a strong candidate facing experience as well as backend intelligence.
Beamery. Beamery positions itself around talent lifecycle management and CRM style candidate relationship tools, and tends to appeal to organizations prioritizing proactive sourcing and nurture campaigns over great skills matching.
SeekOut. SeekOut began as a specialist sourcing and diversity focused search tool and has since expanded into wider talent intelligence, remaining particularly strong for technical and hard to fill roles.
iCIMS. iCIMS is a long established applicant tracking and talent acquisition suite, a common comparison point for buyers who already run iCIMS and are weighing whether to add or replace it with an AI native platform like Eightfold.
Workday and SAP SuccessFactors talent modules. Many buyers already run one of these HCM suites and want to know whether their native talent modules are sufficient, or whether a specialist layer such as Eightfold is needed on top, which is exactly the kind of relationship Eightfold has built with SAP.
