Who are Attio? Future CRM

Who are Attio?

Attio is a customer relationship management (CRM) platform that has become one of the most talked about names in the CRM market over the past two years. So much interest for a vendor so young. Built around a flexible data model and, more recently, a set of AI agents, it now appears regularly on shortlists alongside established names such as Salesforce and HubSpot, particularly among fast-growing technology businesses that feel poorly served by traditional CRM. For enterprise buyers, the useful question is whether Attio is simply a well-designed tool for start-ups or a credible option for larger and more complex sales organisations.

Viewpoint Analysis is a Technology Matchmaker, helping businesses to quickly find and select new enterprise technology. Our aim is to be the place enterprise buyers go to understand the software and technology market before speaking to vendors. Read on to learn more about Attio.

Who Are Attio?

Attio was founded in 2019 and is headquartered in London, UK. The company is led by CEO Nicolas Sharp. It is a venture-backed business, and in August 2025 it raised a $52 million Series B round led by GV (the venture arm of Alphabet, formerly Google Ventures), taking total funding to $116 million. Alongside the round, Attio reported more than 5,000 paying customers and said it was on track to grow annual recurring revenue fourfold that year.

Attio describes itself as "the CRM for agentic revenue", a positioning that reflects its move from a data-first CRM towards a platform where AI agents work alongside sales and customer teams. Its customer base skews toward venture-backed software, AI, and product-led businesses, with a notable following among venture capital and investment firms. Named customers include Lovable, Granola, Modal, Replicate and Public. Attio competes on flexibility, speed of implementation, and built-in AI rather than on the breadth of functionality found in the large CRM suites, and it publishes its pricing openly, with a free tier for small teams, Plus and Pro plans priced per user, and an Enterprise plan on custom pricing.

What Does Attio Do?

Attio is a CRM: a system for storing and managing information about the companies and people a business sells to, and the deals it is working on. It differs from many traditional platforms in its data model. Rather than fixing the customer record into a standard shape of accounts, contacts and opportunities, Attio lets each organisation define its own objects, attributes and relationships. A venture capital firm can model funds, founders and portfolio companies, while a product-led software business can model workspaces, product usage and subscriptions. This is why teams that have struggled to bend Salesforce or HubSpot to their business model look at Attio.

The second theme is data capture. Attio syncs with email and calendar accounts and builds a picture of relationships and interactions automatically, which reduces the manual data entry that often undermines CRM adoption. Company and contact records are enriched automatically, and a call intelligence feature records and analyses meetings. Product usage, billing, and marketing data can be brought in through integrations and the API. Attio groups this under the banner of "Universal Context", the idea being that the CRM holds a complete view of each customer without users having to assemble it by hand.

The third theme, and the focus of Attio's recent product work, is AI and automation. A visual workflow engine automates routine tasks such as lead routing, deal updates and onboarding steps. Ask Attio lets users query and create data in plain language, custom agents can be configured for specific tasks, a web agent carries out research on prospects and accounts, and sequences handle personalised outbound email. Attio also supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and connects with AI assistants including Claude and ChatGPT, as well as tools such as Slack, Notion and Linear.

Attio sits within the wider CRM market, which we cover in more depth on our CRM Technology page. In our view its strongest fit is with organisations that want a CRM configured and run by business operations teams rather than consultants, and whose data does not sit comfortably in a standard CRM structure. Buyers with requirements such as complex quoting and pricing, field service, large contact centres or deep ERP integration should test carefully, because Attio's scope is narrower than that of the large suite vendors and its partner ecosystem is still developing.

Attio Technology Areas

Attio's platform is organised into a small number of product areas, all delivered as a single cloud application.

• Data Model. Custom objects, attributes and lists that let each organisation shape the CRM around its own business rather than a fixed template.

• Email and Calendar Sync. Automatic logging of emails and meetings against the relevant people and companies, building relationship history without manual entry.

• Enrichment. Automatic enrichment of company and contact records with firmographic and profile data.

• Call Intelligence. Recording, transcription and analysis of sales and customer meetings, with insights linked back to CRM records.

• Reporting and Forecasts. Real-time reporting, dashboards and pipeline forecasting built on the same flexible data model.

• Workflows. A visual automation engine for orchestrating revenue processes such as lead routing, deal progression and customer onboarding.

• Ask Attio. A natural language interface for analysing CRM data and creating records, reports and content.

• Custom Agents and Web Agent. Configurable AI agents for specific tasks, plus an agent that researches prospects and accounts across the web.

• Sequences. Personalised, multi-step outbound email campaigns run directly from the CRM.

• Developer Platform. A REST API, an App SDK (in beta) and MCP support for building custom apps and connecting AI tools to CRM data.

Attio Alternatives

The CRM market is crowded and mature - indeed it is a brave vendor to try to push into this area. Attio competes on two fronts. At the enterprise end, it is positioned as a lighter, faster alternative to the large CRM suites (e.g. replacing Salesforce or MS Dynamics?), which offer far broader functionality and ecosystems but take longer and cost more to implement and change. Among smaller and mid-sized businesses, it competes with other modern, easy-to-use CRM products, several of which are also adding AI agents. Buyers should be clear about which of these comparisons matters to them before building a shortlist.

•       Salesforce Sales Cloud. Salesforce is the largest CRM vendor and the default choice for many large enterprises, with a very broad product family, a huge partner ecosystem and its own AI agent platform in Agentforce. It offers far more depth than Attio in areas such as quoting, service and industry-specific clouds. The trade-off is cost and complexity, which is exactly the pain point Attio targets when it wins customers from Salesforce.

•       HubSpot Sales Hub. HubSpot combines CRM with marketing, sales, service and content tools on one platform, and is strong for mid-market businesses that want an integrated inbound marketing and sales stack. It is easier to adopt than Salesforce and has a large app marketplace. Attio typically competes where buyers find HubSpot's standard data structures too rigid for their business model.

•       Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales. Dynamics 365 Sales is a natural option for organisations already invested in Microsoft 365, Azure and Dynamics ERP, with close integration into Outlook, Teams and Copilot. It is well suited to complex, process-heavy sales organisations. It sits at the opposite end of the spectrum to Attio in terms of implementation effort and partner involvement.

•       Pipedrive. Pipedrive is a pipeline-focused CRM popular with small and mid-sized sales teams for its simplicity and value. It is quick to deploy and easy for salespeople to use day to day. Attio offers considerably more flexibility in data modelling and automation, while Pipedrive remains the simpler choice for straightforward deal tracking.

•       Affinity. Affinity is a relationship intelligence CRM built specifically for private capital firms, including venture capital, private equity and investment banking. It captures relationship data from email and calendars and is designed around deal sourcing and network management. It is Attio's most direct rival among investment firms, where Attio competes on configurability and broader use across the firm.

•       folk. folk is a lightweight, modern CRM aimed at small teams, agencies and founders, with a strong focus on ease of use and relationship management. It shares Attio's design-led approach and automatic contact enrichment. It is generally a simpler and less extensible option, better suited to smaller teams than to scaling sales organisations.

Attio Customer Examples

Attio's published customer stories are drawn mainly from technology businesses and investment firms, which reflects where the platform has found its strongest early adoption. The four examples below are taken from Attio's own website and show the range of ways customers are using the platform, from venture capital relationship management to product-led growth.

Union Square Ventures. The New York venture capital firm uses Attio as its central platform for managing founder and investor relationships, deal flow and network operations, including custom objects for events and talent searches. It replaced a legacy CRM that had struggled with adoption, and reports reaching 90% adoption across the firm within three months.

Granola. The London-based AI meeting notes company uses Attio to capture and tier inbound leads automatically, combine them with product usage data and route deals to account executives. Granola reports cutting daily lead review from two hours to 20 minutes.

Snackpass. The San Francisco software company, which provides technology for restaurants, moved to Attio from Salesforce to run sales pipeline, customer success and revenue reporting. It built channel attribution tracking without engineering support and removed the need for external Salesforce consultants.

Modal. The AI infrastructure company, which provides a serverless platform for running generative AI models and compute jobs, replaced HubSpot with Attio to support its product-led growth motion. It combines product usage data with enriched customer data to target outreach and identify accounts at risk of churn.
