ESG Data Management Software Options 2026

Most sustainability teams know the feeling. Energy data sits with facilities, workforce data sits in the HR system, supplier emissions are scattered across procurement records, and the annual report deadline arrives before anyone has reconciled the spreadsheets. Auditors and investors now expect sustainability figures to withstand the same scrutiny as the financial numbers next to them, and that's hard to do from a shared drive.
2026 has also reset the rules. The EU Omnibus I package has narrowed the scope of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Commission has adopted a simplified set of reporting standards, while in the UK the FCA has confirmed that listed companies will report against the new UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (UK SRS) from 2027. Fewer companies are caught by CSRD than first expected, but those that remain in scope, and their suppliers, still need audit-ready data, and vendors have spent the year rebuilding their products around the new requirements.
This guide outlines the leading ESG data management platforms for 2026, split between enterprise ESG reporting platforms and carbon accounting and climate specialists, so you can see what each does well before speaking to a single vendor. Viewpoint Analysis is a technology matchmaker that helps businesses find and select the right technology fast, and aims to be the place buyers go to understand the software market before speaking to vendors.
This report sits alongside our EHS Software Options 2026 and QHSE Software Options 2026 reports. Platforms built mainly around environmental, health and safety operations, such as Sphera, Cority and Benchmark Gensuite, are covered in those guides rather than here.

What is ESG Data Management Software?
ESG data management software is a category of enterprise technology designed to help organisations collect, validate, consolidate and report on Environmental, Social and Governance metrics across their operations, subsidiaries and supply chains.
At its core, the software solves a data problem. ESG metrics are generated across many different functions - energy consumption sits in facilities, workforce diversity data lives in HR systems, Scope 3 supply chain emissions are scattered across procurement platforms, and governance metrics are embedded in compliance and board management tools. Without a dedicated platform, sustainability teams spend the majority of their time in spreadsheets, chasing colleagues for data, and manually reconciling inconsistent inputs.
A mature ESG data management platform brings this together through automated data collection, standardised calculation methodologies (particularly for carbon emissions across all three scopes), audit trails that meet assurance requirements, and pre-built reporting outputs aligned to frameworks including GRI, ISSB, CSRD/ESRS, CDP, TCFD and EU Taxonomy.

What Does ESG Data Management Software Actually Do?
Data Collection and Integration
The best platforms connect directly to source systems - ERP, HRIS, utility billing, procurement, property management - rather than relying on manual data entry. This matters because manual processes introduce errors at scale, and regulatory frameworks increasingly require auditable, traceable data. Look for platforms with broad native integrations and API flexibility.
Carbon Accounting and Emissions Calculation
Greenhouse gas accounting sits at the heart of most ESG programmes. Platforms need to handle Scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 (purchased energy), and Scope 3 (value chain emissions) consistently and in line with the GHG Protocol. Scope 3 is the most complex - it requires supplier engagement, spend-based proxies, or activity data from dozens of emission categories - and it is typically where platform capability varies most significantly.
Regulatory Reporting and Framework Alignment
The regulatory burden continues to grow. For European enterprises, CSRD and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) represent the most significant new obligation - requiring double materiality assessments, extensive disclosures and third-party assurance for in-scope companies. Platforms that keep pace with regulatory change and provide built-in framework templates materially reduce the compliance workload.
Audit Readiness and Data Governance
As ESG disclosures move towards the same assurance standards applied to financial reporting, data governance becomes critical. Platforms should provide version control, change logs, evidence attachment, calculation transparency and workflow approvals - the same infrastructure that supports financial close processes, applied to sustainability data.
Performance Management and Scenario Planning
Beyond compliance, leading organisations are using ESG platforms to manage towards targets - tracking progress against net zero commitments, running scenario models, and integrating ESG performance into operational and procurement decision-making. This moves the platform from a reporting tool to a management tool.
Key Buying Factors for ESG Data Management Software
The ESG software market is crowded and consolidating quickly, with enterprise reporting suites, ERP extensions and carbon accounting specialists all competing for the same buyers, so a structured starting point saves time before any vendor conversations begin.

• Regulatory scope coverage: Confirm which frameworks the platform supports natively and how quickly updates are released when standards change. CSRD/ESRS, GRI, ISSB/IFRS S1 and S2, CDP, TCFD and EU Taxonomy are the primary requirements for UK and European enterprises in 2026.
• Scope 3 capability: How does the platform handle Scope 3 data collection from suppliers? Does it offer a supplier portal, spend-based estimation, or direct system integration? Scope 3 is typically 70-90% of a company's total footprint and the hardest data to collect reliably.
• ERP and system integration: What native connectors exist for SAP, Oracle, Workday, Microsoft Dynamics and other core enterprise systems? The more automated the data collection, the lower the ongoing operational burden.
• Audit trail and assurance support: Does the platform generate the evidence pack required for third-party limited or reasonable assurance? As mandatory assurance requirements come into force under CSRD, this is no longer optional for in-scope organisations.
• Deployment model and security: Cloud SaaS is now standard, but data residency, role-based access controls and SOC 2 compliance matter - particularly for large multinationals and regulated industries.
• Total cost of ownership: ESG platforms are often priced on a combination of module access, number of entities/sites and user licences. Implementation and data migration costs can be significant. Build a full TCO model before comparing headline prices.
• Sustainability team vs IT ownership: Some platforms are designed to be owned and operated by sustainability professionals; others require IT resource to configure and maintain. Be honest about where ongoing ownership will sit in your organisation.
Enterprise ESG Reporting Platforms 2026
Workiva brings sustainability reporting onto the same cloud platform that many listed companies already use for financial statements, regulatory filings and audit and risk work. Its sustainability solution maps data to CSRD and ESRS, ISSB, GRI and CDP, supports double materiality assessments, and produces designed reports with XHTML export and XBRL tagging. In June 2024 Workiva acquired carbon accounting provider Sustain.Life and relaunched it as Workiva Carbon, adding Scope 1, 2 and 3 calculation and supplier surveys to the platform. Because sustainability figures are linked to the same source data as the financial report, a change to one number flows through every document that uses it, which suits teams preparing for external assurance. Workiva has also added AI agents to its higher tiers for sustainability disclosure drafting and peer benchmarking.
Our Viewpoint: A strong fit for listed and assurance-bound organisations that want sustainability disclosures produced and controlled in the same governed environment as their financial reporting.
IBM Envizi ESG Suite started life as Envizi, a Sydney-based environmental data company founded in 2004, and has been part of IBM since January 2022. Its core strength is data capture at scale, automating the collection of more than 500 ESG data types, from utility meters and energy bills to water, waste and social metrics, into a single auditable system of record. Emissions are calculated on the GHG Protocol with managed emission factors, and IBM has opened that calculation engine up through an Emissions API and an Excel add-in. A Sustainability Reporting Manager module supports framework responses, including CDP 2026, and has been updated for the simplified ESRS. Recent releases have added AI-assisted extraction of data from utility bills, alongside long-standing integration with IBM Maximo and other asset management systems.
Our Viewpoint: Well suited to property-heavy, asset-intensive and multi-site organisations that need to bring large volumes of energy, utility and operational data under control before they report on it.
SAP Sustainability Control Tower is SAP's cloud application for capturing, managing and reporting ESG metrics, built to sit alongside SAP S/4HANA and the wider SAP estate. It draws sustainability and operational data directly from SAP systems and, through open APIs, from non-SAP sources, so ESG metrics can be analysed next to financial and operational figures. Prebuilt content supports ESRS and EU Taxonomy reporting, with metrics configured from SAP-delivered or custom definitions and AI-assisted drafting for report narrative. SAP positions it alongside SAP Green Ledger, which records carbon data at transaction level within the financial ledger. For SAP-centric organisations it offers the shortest path to building sustainability data collection into processes that already run on SAP.
Our Viewpoint: The natural starting point for organisations with a large SAP footprint that want ESG data drawn from the same systems that run finance, procurement and supply chain.
Novisto is a Montreal-based sustainability management platform, founded in 2019 and built for large, often listed, enterprises that need ESG data held to the same standard as financial data. The platform centralises quantitative and qualitative ESG data from contributors across the business, with workflows, audit trails and controls designed for assurance, and supports materiality assessment and reporting across multiple frameworks including CSRD. In March 2026 Novisto acquired Minimum, a London-based carbon management company, bringing native carbon accounting and supplier data collection into the core platform. The company raised a US$27 million Series C in 2025 to fund its expansion into Europe. Its customers are concentrated in financial services, technology, telecoms and consumer goods.
Our Viewpoint: A good fit for listed enterprises that want an ESG system of record with finance-grade controls, now with carbon accounting built in rather than added from a separate vendor.
Position Green is a Nordic ESG platform that pairs reporting software with an in-house advisory team, serving more than 1,000 clients across Northern Europe and the US. The platform covers ESG data management, CSRD and multi-framework reporting, decarbonisation planning and supply chain transparency, with consultants available to support materiality assessments and first-time reports. Majority-owned by Nordic private equity firm Norvestor since 2022, the company has grown through acquisition, adding Norwegian carbon management platform Morescope in August 2025 and Brussels-based AI reporting specialist Greenomy in September 2025. Its focus geographies are the Nordics and Benelux, and it has invested heavily in tracking EU regulatory change, including the Omnibus revisions.
Our Viewpoint: A strong choice for European organisations that want CSRD-ready software and specialist advisory support from a single provider.
Carbon Accounting and Climate Specialists 2026
Orki is a French climate and ESG company based in Paris, combining a dedicated software platform with tailored support from its own team of specialist sustainability consultants. Backed by the French tech group Galadrim, Orki is a team of just over ten people focused entirely on helping companies measure, report and reduce their environmental impact. The platform covers four connected areas: carbon accounting across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 (Bilan Carbone, BEGES and GHG Protocol), product life cycle assessment to ISO 14040/44 with bulk bill-of-materials import for FDES, PEP and EPD declarations, ESG reporting for CSRD, VSME and EcoVadis, and product regulation workflows for CBAM and the EU digital product passport under ESPR. A dedicated supplier collection module gathers primary carbon data from suppliers to strengthen Scope 3 reporting, and calculations draw on more than 100,000 emission factors from sources including ADEME and ecoinvent. Thanks to its tools and built-in AI, Orki speeds up data collection and processing, cutting the time clients spend on these tasks by 50%.
Beyond the software, Orki’s core strength is tailored support: each project is guided by specialist consultants who adapt the approach to the client’s sector, data and regulatory needs. Its methodology is validated by the Association pour la transition Bas Carbone (ABC), the body behind the Bilan Carbone method. Orki works with organisations such as Siemens Energy, Otis, STEF, Schüco, Estée Lauder, Ecocert and Segula, with a particular focus on mid-sized industrial, logistics, construction and technology businesses.
Our Viewpoint: Orki stands out for combining organisational carbon accounting, product-level life cycle assessment and ESG reporting (CSRD and VSME) in one platform, with specialist consultants who tailor the support to each client. Its tools and AI halve the time spent on data collection and processing. It is a strong fit for manufacturers and mid-sized businesses that need to produce environmental product declarations alongside their corporate ESG reporting and want expert guidance built into the service.
Watershed is a San Francisco-based climate platform, founded in 2019, that covers carbon measurement, disclosure, reduction planning and supplier programmes for large enterprises. Its acquisition of VitalMetrics brought the CEDA environmental database in-house, giving Watershed its own source of emission factors for granular, audit-grade Scope 3 calculations. Customers include Walmart, Airbnb and Stripe, and the platform also supports financed emissions for banks and asset managers. Watershed combines the software with in-house climate science expertise and a marketplace of vetted carbon removal and clean power projects. It now positions itself as a sustainability AI platform, with AI agents built into measurement and reporting workflows.
Our Viewpoint: Well suited to large enterprises that want rigorous, audit-grade carbon data and a clear route from measurement through to emissions reduction.
Sweep was founded in France and now operates from Paris, London and, since 2026, Denver, describing itself as a sustainability intelligence platform for large companies and financial institutions. It covers carbon accounting, ESG disclosure, value chain engagement and audit, including the double materiality and impacts, risks and opportunities tooling that CSRD reporting requires. Sweep is built to reuse one validated data set across frameworks such as CSRD, GRI, CDP and ISSB, so teams are not collecting the same data again for each disclosure. In September 2026 it extended its Sweepy AI assistant to run multi-step sustainability tasks across the platform, with every action kept traceable. Clients include L'Oréal, Thales and Crocs, and it works with delivery partners including KPMG, BearingPoint and Arcadis.
Our Viewpoint: A strong fit for multinational organisations that want carbon and wider ESG reporting on one shared data foundation, with partner support for delivery.
Persefoni is an Arizona-based carbon accounting and climate disclosure platform, founded in 2020 and built to calculate emissions with the same rigour and auditability applied to financial data. Its calculation engine follows the GHG Protocol and the PCAF standard for financed emissions, which makes it particularly relevant to banks, asset managers and private equity firms as well as corporate buyers. Disclosure support covers CSRD, ISSB, CDP and California's SB 253, and the company has added AI tools including PersefoniGPT and an Analytics Agent for querying emissions data. In October 2025 Diligent agreed to move its carbon accounting clients onto Persefoni's platform and took an equity stake in the company. A free self-service tier, Persefoni Pro, gives smaller organisations a way to start measuring before moving to a paid plan.
Our Viewpoint: Particularly well suited to financial institutions and investors with financed emissions obligations, and to corporates that want finance-grade controls on their carbon data.
Greenly is a Paris-based carbon accounting platform, founded in 2019, that serves around 3,500 clients across 25 countries, with a focus on making carbon management accessible to mid-sized businesses. The platform pulls data from accounting, utility, cloud and supply chain systems through more than 100 integrations to calculate Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, and pairs that with support from in-house climate experts. Coverage extends to CSRD and ESRS reporting, SBTi target setting, product life cycle assessment and EU rules such as CBAM and EUDR. In September 2026 Greenly acquired Swedish competitor Normative in a deal reported at around €65 million. Its methodology is accredited by the ABC association behind the Bilan Carbone method.
Our Viewpoint: A good fit for mid-sized businesses that want accessible, expert-backed carbon accounting with a clear path into CSRD and product-level reporting.
How to Select ESG Data Technology
Start with the rules that actually apply to you. After Omnibus I, many organisations that were preparing for CSRD are now out of scope, while UK listed companies face UK SRS and US-linked businesses may face California's climate laws. Confirm your mandatory frameworks, the voluntary ones your customers and investors ask for, and the information your larger customers will request from you as a supplier, before you write requirements.
Decide whether you need a reporting platform or a carbon specialist. Enterprise ESG reporting platforms are built around governed disclosure, controls and multi-framework reporting, while carbon specialists go deeper on emissions calculation, supplier data and reduction planning. Many organisations need both capabilities, so check whether one platform genuinely covers your priorities or whether a pairing makes more sense.
Test Scope 3 and supplier data collection. Scope 3 is usually the largest part of a company's footprint and the hardest data to collect. Ask vendors to show how they move from spend-based estimates to supplier-specific data, how suppliers are invited and supported, and where their emission factors come from.
Check audit trail and assurance readiness. As sustainability disclosures move towards external assurance, ask to see how a reported figure is traced back to source data, how changes are logged and approved, and what evidence an assurer can access. A platform that cannot show this clearly will create extra work at year end.
Look at integration and ownership. Check native connectors for your ERP, HR, procurement and utility data sources, and be honest about who will own the platform day to day, whether that is the sustainability team, finance or IT. The answer often decides which tier of vendor is the better fit.
Whichever criteria matter most for your organisation, a structured process makes the difference between a good decision and a rushed one. Our Technology Selection Services cover Rapid RFI, Rapid RFP and 30-Day Technology Selection approaches depending on how quickly you need to move, and our Enterprise Software Selection Playbook 2026 is the definitive reference for buyers who want to go deeper on selection methodology.
Summary
The ESG data management market in 2026 splits into two broad groups. Enterprise reporting platforms, Workiva, IBM Envizi, SAP Sustainability Control Tower, Novisto and Position Green, are built around governed, assurance-ready disclosure across multiple frameworks, each with a different centre of gravity in financial reporting, data capture at scale, the SAP estate, enterprise controls or European advisory support. Carbon accounting and climate specialists, Watershed, Sweep, Persefoni, Greenly and Orki, go deeper on emissions measurement, supplier data, financed emissions and product-level footprints. Three things matter more than any feature list when choosing between them: being clear which rules apply to your organisation after the 2026 changes, being honest about whether your priority is disclosure or carbon depth, and testing how well each platform proves where its numbers came from. Getting those right narrows the field considerably before a single vendor demo is booked.
